What is different about filing in the United Arab Emirates
The UAE is among the most expensive places in the world to register a trademark — official fees run into thousands of dirhams per class across the filing, publication and registration stages, and they are charged strictly per class with no multi-class discount. It joined the Madrid Protocol only in December 2021, so a designation is now possible where it was not before.
How the UAE filing process runs
- Clearance. We check the UAE register for earlier marks that would block or narrow yours, before you spend a filing fee.
- Classes and specification. Goods and services drafted to the Nice classification — too narrow and you leave gaps, too broad and you invite refusal.
- Filing. Filed as a national trademark at Ministry of Economy.
